Morrison residents help kids with auction, dinner
STILLWATER, Okla. — Going once, going twice, sold!
The Morrison Livestock Boosters Club held its annual auction and dinner Saturday at Morrison Public Schools.
Member Cheryl DeVuyst said the event raised money for Morrison youth showing livestock through Morrison Future Farmers of America and 4-H. The amount raised wasn’t available late Saturday.
“I think we’ve had a pretty good turnout,” FFA Vice President Austin Pittman said. “I think it went quite well.”
DeVuyst said there were around 58 residents participating in the live auction while more residents came to just eat and socialize.
“We are glad to see all the people here,” DeVuyst said. She said the event was rescheduled from last weekend due to inclement weather.
DeVuyst said it was a communitywide effort to help its youth with their livestock raising and showing efforts. Through both organizations, youth from ages 9-19 are involved and are in charge of taking care of their animals year-round.
“It’s a great way to teach responsibility of caring for their animals and showing them,” DeVuyst said.
Pittman, a senior, has been involved in the club for five years. He shows goats.
“I’ve always had an interest in agriculture,” said Pittman, who moved to the area from Connecticut in 2005.
Pittman said the major shows are in the spring with jackpots held all year-round. The annual auction and dinner helps ensure the FFA and 4-H students are able to continue with their livestock competitions.
Morrison youth will showcase their livestock Saturday during a local livestock show for Morrison students only. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon. with a concession stand available selling food and drink. Admission is free.
The show will display all livestock and will be at the Morrison School Farm, located at Second and C.
