STILLWATER, Okla. — Fifty-four Payne County residents took an icy dip into Boomer Lake Saturday morning as part of the Polar Plunge, a fundraising effort for the Special Olympics of Oklahoma.
The Stillwater Polar Plunge raised $11,000 for the organization through donations gathered by the plungers. Some plungers representing local groups wore costume. Planning committee members took the plunge as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.”
At the time of the plunge the air temperature was 37 degrees and the water was 35 degrees, according to the Stillwater Police Department.
“It was hard to anticipate how cold it was going to be, I was a little nervous about it but once I got in it was good,” said Oklahoma State University Police Officer Leon Jones.
