STILLWATER, Okla. — Capt. Shawn Morgan assumed command of the 366th Military Police Co. during a ceremony Sunday morning at the Cleo O. Payne Army Reserve Center in Stillwater.
Morgan was a police officer in Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, N.C., before starting a distinguished military career. He has served in Iraq, and was an instructor at Fort Benning, Ga.
Sunday’s ceremony started Morgan’s two-year assignment as company commander.
He said he is ready for the challenges of command, and has a great unit to lead.
“I was worried when I came here. I didn’t know what to expect. They all seem pretty motivated. They’ve got a lot of esprit de corp. They take great pride in being MPs.”
“We are going to have a good time for the next two years. We are going to have a lot of fun,” he said.
Brig. Gen. Robert Kenyon expressed confidence in Morgan during a speech to the company.
“My command is responsible for all acts of omission and comission. It requires you (Morgan) to take care of each and every soldier and by extension his or her family. ... It requires absolutely impartiality when dealing with subordinates. ... It requires you to do what’s right even if it’s unpopular,” he said.
