Stillwater High School vocal music students perform at 7 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church

STILLWATER, Okla. — From “Let it Snow” to “Goin’ on a sleigh ride,” the Stillwater High School vocal music students will sing into a “Winter Wonderland” at 7 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Seventh St.

Under the direction of Dana Ayers, the concert is free and promises a wide variety of musical genres and holiday favorites. Pam Harmon serves as accompanist for the singers.

A silent auction fundraiser is planned prior to the concert and during intermission, Ayers said. Proceeds will contribute to funds needed for the upcoming Pioneer Chorale Festivals at Sea performance and cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, during spring break 2014.  Items in the silent auction will include jewelry, Christmas ornaments and decorations, food and craft items, as well as goods and services by local merchants.

Ayers said the concert will feature solos, duets and small ensembles. The first half of the concert will showcase both sacred and secular text classical music. The second half is all fun with more contemporary Christmas holiday music.

The Pioneer Chorale will present holiday classics such as “Carol of the Bells” and “White Christmas” while the Pioneer Mixed Choir will sing several traditional sacred arrangements, including John Carter’s “Cantate Domino.” The group will get into their groove with “Jazz Gloria” by Natalie Sleeth and a “Swingin’ with Santa Claus” medley.

Soloists will be performing numbers such as “Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind,” “Suzy Snowflake” and “The White World of Winter” with many additional students featured in the choral numbers. Some of the soloists featured include Emily Nelson, Taryn Sample, Samantha MacIntyre, Brianna Findley, Blake Toves, Ben Allen, Gavin Guthrie, Hunter Hawks, Caroline Harrist, Carley Dickey, Ben Yates and Rachel Peek.

Carley Dickey, Rachel Peek, Caroline Harrist and Tyler Swim plan to perform as a quartet. Another quartet will feature Kidist Beker, Alexa Aufleger, Hannah Fugett and Samantha Allen. The trio of Bethany Gardner, Catherine Petty and Ashleigh Kuehn will sing “Goin’ to Bethlehem.” Edyn Rolls and Harrison Daffern will perform a duet.

Kuehn will play the flute and Bailey Bovenschen will assist with percussion on several selections.

The student-led group, Close Harmony, under the direction of senior Rachel Peek, will also be performing two selections for the concert.
