STILLWATER, Okla. — A Stillwater man pleaded innocent earlier this month to charges stemming from a car chase that dragged a Perkins Police officer nearly 15 feet.

Brian Lawrence Brown, 23, faces charges of eluding a police officer and endangering others, a felony, and resisting an officer, a misdemeanor.

On July 5, Perkins Police officer Kyle Howard was attempting to make a traffic stop when Brown refused to show identification, according to a court affidavit. Howard told Brown to exit the vehicle but he would not cooperate.

When Howard attempted to reach in the window to unlock the driver’s side door, Brown sped away with the officer’s arm stuck in window. The officer was dragged approximately 10 to 15 feet, according to the affidavit.

A chase ensued.

Brown eventually was arrested without incident by Stillwater police.

The officer was treated and released the same day for minor injuries, Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst said.

Brown’s bail ws reduced from $100,000 to $25,000 on July 16.

Brown remains in the Payne County Jail. His next court appearance is an Aug. 5 preliminary hearing.
