STILLWATER, Okla. — Lisa Navrkal is President and CEO of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for Leadership Stillwater Class XXIII through July 11.
1 Can you give us some background on Leadership Stillwater?
Leadership Stillwater was developed in 1984 and has since graduated more than 450 leaders representing a variety of business and industry segments from the program. Graduates are challenged to put the skills they’ve gained to work by becoming involved in the community.
2 What are the program’s goals?
The program’s goal is to identify, educate and develop leaders to assist with community needs and issues. Participants are taught Strengths Based Leadership skills and develop an in-depth understanding of the inter-relationships and complexities of running an entire community. Students also intern on a local civic board during the sessions.
3 Who participates in Leadership Stillwater and how are they selected?
Anyone with an interest in the community may apply. About 30 students are selected to participate each year by an outside selection committee.
4 What kind of commitment is involved?
The students participate in 12 sessions from August through December, kicking off with an overnight retreat.
