Stillwater man testifies against teen co-defendant in Guthrie murder case
GUTHRIE, Okla. —
A Stillwater man accused of murder in Guthrie is cooperating with prosecutors and testified against an accomplice Thursday.
Jerry Jerone Chiles Jr., 21, took the stand in Logan County District Court to testify against Kaleigh Lynn Fryer, 15. Her father, Keith Fryer Jr., was stabbed to death in their home in Guthrie May 13. Chiles and Kaleigh Fryer are charged with first-degree murder, and Chiles is also charged with larceny of an automobile and larceny from a house at night.
Chiles testified at a preliminary hearing before Judge Louis A. Duel. The hearing will continue Aug. 30.
"We still have some preliminary witnesses to put on," District Attorney Rob Hudson said.
Chiles agreed to plead guilty and testify against Kaleigh Fryer in exchange for life in prison with the possibility of parole, Hudson said. Chiles will be eligible for parole in 38 years, he said.
The minimum sentence for first-degree murder is life in prison.
Testifying against a codefendent "doesn't happen very often," Hudson said.
Guthrie police investigated the homicide. The body of Lewis Keith Fryer Jr. was found in a bedroom closet, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Chiles and Kaleigh Fryer had been dating. She left the back door open and a man entered the house and stabbed Fryer, the affidavit states. The man then took Fryer’s keys and drove his car to a nearby mall, according to the affidavit.
Chiles and Kaleigh Fryer are being held without bail in the Logan County Jail.
