STILLWATER, Okla. —
The Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board program has awarded Payne County $19,170 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county, said Sherri Carter, chairman of the Local Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board.
These funds have been made available through the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency. The national monetary distributions are based on unemployment figures, poverty levels, utility assistance applications and local disaster rates, Carter said. The funds are appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs.
The group responsible for disbursing the available funds in Payne County is the Local Emergency Food and Shelter Program Board, Carter said. The local board consists of Dana Mattox, city of Stillwater; Brenda Mutai-Hall; Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency; Paul Vela, Oklahoma Natural Gas; Mary Ann White, American Red Cross; Jana Nelson, Mission of Hope; Gloria Hesser, Payne County; the Rev. Kyle Anderson and Dana Eckhardt, The Storehouse; Capts. Michael and Patrishia Knott, The Salvation Army; Sheri Carter, Stillwater Area United Way, and Debbie Snow, River of Life Church.
“This group will determine how the funds awarded to Payne County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area,” Carter said.
The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive the money made available through this program.
“We all have the same mission to help people,” Carter said.
