Payne County Budget Board to hold public hearing on Monday

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Payne County Budget Board has scheduled a special meeting  Monday to hear public input on the county’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2015.

The special meeting will be held immediately following a special County Commission meeting.

Monday, the commission approved juvenile detention contracts with Canadian County for $19.31 per juvenile per day and Creek County for $29.13 per juvenile per day.

It also renewed an agreement between the county and the city of Perkins to repair or maintain Perkins city streets and alleys.

Payne County provides equipment and labor and Perkins provides materials.

The county has the same agreement with other small communities.

The board congratulated County Treasurer Bonita Stadler on a successful resale property auction. This year’s auction ended with all the parcels sold.

That hasn’t always been the case.

“I don’t get a kick out of selling other people’s property but if you’re not going to pay your taxes for four years, we have to under the law,” she said.

Stadler said the county needed to get rid of those properties to save money on maintenance or mowing and to eliminate concerns about liability.
