Dog attacked in Bartlesville

Authorities believe mountain lion was culprit

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Authorities in Bartlesville say a small dog had to be euthanized after being attacked by what appears to have been a mountain lion.

Officials say the Schnauzer was grabbed by a big cat early Wednesday in the back yard of a residence.

The Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise reports that Police Chief Tom Holland is advising residents to be cautious after dark. The chief says young children and pets should stay indoors at night.

Holland noted that mountain lions roam for miles so it may not be possible to capture the feline.

Aside from the unfortunate Schnauzer, the chief says no other incidents have been reported.
