STILLWATER, Okla. —
University of Oklahoma President David Boren said emergency responders at the university cannot confirm that gun shots were fired.
Students evacuated the Gould Hall building just minutes after an emergency text was sent at 11:24 a.m.
"Gould Hall has been completely searched from bottom to top," he said. "Nothing has been found in or outside the building."
Boren said a faculty member reported that they heard three shots being fired. Police scanners confirmed that the area was on a third floor hallway at approximately 11:18 a.m.
"We can't rule it out that they didn't hear it, though," he said.
Because campus is undergoing some construction nearby, Boren thinks it is likely what the faculty member heard but is just a speculation.
OU Police, Norman Police and Fire Departments, SWAT teams and medical care were all at the campus in a matter of minutes, he said.
Boren commended the work of emergency responders and the university's emergency system for a speedy response.
Boren said hearing shots on campus can never be taken lightly, and that the faculty member did exactly what they were supposed to do.
The building will be checked twice to confirm its safety.
Students were reported trapped in a closet, bathroom and office.
A female was escorted out of the building at 12:44 p.m.
Boren said no one has been taken into custody.
"We're just thankful no one was injured," he said.
It is likely the building will reopen today, pending the second search is cleared safely.
