Officials predict wildfire threat for seven days

STILLWATER, Okla. — The wind whipped up wildfires and house fires Monday and Tuesday. Oklahoma Forestry Services officials predict the wildfire threat will continue for the next seven days.

The winter fire season is starting, Oklahoma State Forester George Geissler said.

“Stay alert for fire weather watches and Red Flag warnings as conditions warrant,” he said.

All outdoor burning is discouraged, and 12 Oklahoma counties have instituted burn bans. Payne County is not currently under a burn ban
