Kansas woman killed in Sunday accident on Cimarron Turnpike

PAWNEE, Okla. — A Wichita, Kan., woman died Sunday in a single-vehicle wreck on the Cimarron Turnpike near Pawnee. Six others were injured.

Paula Kirkpatrick, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple injuries.

At approximately 4:42 p..m. Sunday, driver Earl Wilson, 45, of Wichita, Kan., reportedly became sleepy while driving westbound on the turnpike. The van drifted off the north side of the road, hitting a guardrail. The van rolled two times before coming to a stop, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Three other passengers —  Clifton Carmichael, 12,  Keeni Wilson, 4 and Khaai Wilson, 6, all of Wichita, Kan., were treated and released from either Cushing Regional Hospital and Stillwater Medical Center.

Passengers Sarah Kirkpatrick, 39, of Wichita, Kan.  and Christopher Casler, 12, of Wichita, Kan., were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in critical and serious condition.

All passengers were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the accident. The cause is still under investigation.
