STILLWATER, Okla. — City councilors will be asked Monday to support developer Joel Walker’s senior housing project at 1000 E. Virginia Ave.

A resolution backing Walker’s Legacy Senior Residences is on Monday’s City Council agenda. City councilors will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Stillwater Muncipal Building, 723 S. Lewis.

Walker’s Housing Concepts, Inc. is applying to the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency for tax credits to build the duplex development on 5.19 acres at 1000 E. Virginia Ave. These tax credits allow for development/rehabilitation of housing for low-to-moderate income people.

A resolution of support earns additional points on the tax credit applications. It doesn’t involve financial or other assistance from the city, according to a report by Paula Dennison, director of development services.

The city has issued resolutions of support to other developers trying to receive tax credits, according to the report. It is a rare occurrence.
