UPDATE: Dogs that killed baby were new to family
Two dogs that mauled a baby to death had been given to the family the day before
PERKINS, Okla. — Two dogs that mauled a baby boy to death had been brought inside to have shelter from Monday's rain, Iowa tribal administrators said Tuesday.
The baby died Monday after being mauled by a dog south of Perkins, said Stillwater Fire Battalion Chief Rick Hauf.
The attack occurred on land under tribal jurisdiction. Tribal Administrator Stephanie Ramsey said the two adult dogs had been given to the family the day before. She declined to identify the family or specify the dogs' breed.
Emergency responders took the baby's mother to an area hospital after the attack. There were indications she was being treated for shock.
A funeral home employee said Tuesday the boy's services had not yet been scheduled.
