Stillwater officials will consider economic development contract with Chamber on Monday

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater officials will consider spending $150,000 to hire the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce to recruit and retain businesses and industries at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis.

Contract discussion will occur during the Stillwater Economic Development Authority meeting Monday night. The Authority is comprised of the mayor and city councilors.

The Chamber has served as the city’s industrial/business development arm for years. The 2012 contract paid the chamber $152,000 to provide this service, Marketing and Public Relations Director Sherry Fletcher said.

According to the proposed contract, the chamber will provide business retention and expansion, company recruitment, regional and cooperative participation and shop local campaigns for the city.

Stillwater officials revamped some of its economic development methods in August.

Stillwater created the position of economic director for consumer business development and promoted Angela McLaughlin to the position. McLaughlin had served as the city’s Business Improvement District No. 1 Coordinator. Amy Jo Frazier replaced McLaughlin as BID coordinator.
