Gundy mum on Tennessee rumors

STILLWATER, Okla. — Reports are swirling around the Internet linking Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy for the head coaching vacancies at Tennessee, along with several other candidates.

During a teleconference Sunday night to talk about OSU's bowl selection, Gundy was asked to comment on those rumors. And just like his handling of the quarterback carousel for the Cowboys this season, Gundy was mum about any possibility of departing from his alma mater.

"For one thing I would never comment on another job," Gundy said. "My only concern now is Oklahoma State."

Citing several sources, a Rivals site devoted to Tennessee athletics (Volquest.com) was reporting that Gundy was scheduled to interview with the Vols for the coaching position.

"I would never — just for everybody involved — talk about any other jobs or give any confirmation of anything that has gone on," Gundy said.

Oklahoma State will play Purdue in the Heart of Dallas on Jan. 1 at the historic Cotton Bowl. The Boilermakers are in the process of replacing a head coach themselves, after the university fired Danny Hope after a 6-6 season.

"I would just prefer not to talk about anything other than Oklahoma State and the bowl game," Gundy said.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
