STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University is providing an opportunity for couples who missed out on Valentine's Day plans.

The university will host American Shakespeare Center's production of "Love's Labour's Lost" at 8 p.m. Friday at the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Pre-show begins at 7:30 p.m.

"This is our fifth performance of the year," said Coordinator of OSU Allied Arts and Special Events Brandon Mitts. "We do six performances each year."

According to an OSU release, "Love's Labour's Lost" revolves around the King of Navarre and his three schoolmates who "are ripe for an education in love from the Princess of France and her three ladies." Other characters join in, including love-warrior Don Armado and rogue Costard, the release said.

"They'll incorporate little bits of modern culture even with some of the costuming and stuff," he said.

This also includes music with songs by N*Sync and The Backstreet Boys being used to connect to modern audiences, he said.

The Allied Arts Selection Committee, comprised of OSU students, staff, faculty and community representatives, select a variety of performances, including at least one theater and one dance production.

Mitts said the committee chose this production and company because of their uniqueness. The American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Va., has a replica of Shakespeare's indoor theatre, a Blackfriar playhouse, and the company takes part in touring with their productions.

Mitts said visitors may want to show up early as they will be entertained from the start of the pre-show. This show will also have another unique twist not normally seen to OSU productions.

"Part of the audience will be sitting on the stage, so they've asked us to put up two sets of chairs on the stage," Mitts said. "We'll have around 20 chairs on the stage."

Audience members will be selected for these seats during the pre-show.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $8 for OSU students and children 12 and under. Tickets will be sold at the door or can be purchased by calling 744-7509 or visiting alliedarts.okstate.edu.
