Stillwater police release bus accident details

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater police released details Thursday of a bus wreck that sent 12 students to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries on April 16.

According to the accident report, the driver did not do anything improper.

The bus, operated by Moore Public Schools, was traveling through a private parking lot near Stillwater High School. As the bus turned left and the back left portion of the bus struck a concrete light pole support base. The back left wheel drove up and over the base, causing the bus to tilt drastically to the right causing passengers to be thrown up and to the right.

At least 12 student passengers were injured and transported to Stillwater Medical Center. Students reported back, neck, rib and shoulder after hitting chairs, windows and the bus floor, the report shows.

The driver told police she could not see the light pole base when she made the left turn because of the vehicle’s high ground clearance.
