United Way to host golf tourney in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. — The United Way Golf Classic is set to take place over a three-day period. The tournament begins Friday and concludes May 19.

The event, sponsored by Stillwater’s Three Amigos, will begin with a catered dinner on Friday night at the Wes Watkins Center.

Stan Clark Company’s representative Kendra Moreland said the dinner will also feature a silent auction.

“We have everything from Thunder suite tickets to autographed guitars,” she said. “This year I’ve got a guitar signed by Dierks Bentley.”

Other items include OSU sporting tickets, roundtrip airline tickets and smaller items such as gift certificates from local merchants.

“There’s something for everybody,” she said.

The golf tournament begins the next two days and is split between Lakeside Golf Course and Stillwater Country Club. Two-man teams will be grouped into similar skill divisions. Winners in each division will receive gift certificates at the courses’ pro shops.

“Usually, we have about 100 teams each year that participate,” she said.

Each course has a special challenge on one hole.

At Lakeside Golf Course, a hole-in-one on No. 10 could win an Alaskan cruise.

A hole-in-one at No. 9 could win someone a $25,000 car sponsored by four local car dealerships.

“We haven’t had one hit a hole-in-one on that hole for the car in recent years,” she said.

The event raises approximately $30,000 annually.

Entry forms must be filled out and entry fee is $150 per person. Each person must have a teammate.

The deadline to enter is Monday. Visit to sign up or get more information.
