STILLWATER, Okla. —
Lake McMurtry will be the site of a 5K fun run as the lake hosts its first “June Bug Jog” June 8 at 8 a.m.
Assistant Park Manager Rachel Snyder said this is one of many events she hopes to see become an annual tradition.
“We think it’s good to have that repetition and for visitors to come out for events that they’ve become dedicated to,” she said.
The main goal is to keep the lake fresh in visitors’ minds.
The cost to enter is $20 for adults, $15 for kids ages 12 and under and $25 for entry the day of the race. Registration includes refreshments and a T-shirt and must be completed and received with payment by June 4.
The event will also feature a raffle for prizes.
“We’re trying to seek some sponsors out that are health related such as a supplement store or a shoe store ... and see if they can donate some prizes to us,” Snyder said.
Money raised will go toward the promotion and upkeep of the lake and its offerings.
The east side of the lake will be closed from 7:45-9:45 a.m. for runners. Following the event, lake employees will hold a public meeting to discuss updates and changes at the lake.
