Councilors to take oath of office at meeting

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater councilor-elect Gina Noble and councilor Joe Weaver will receive the oath of office at a special meeting of the City Council at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Stillwater Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis.

Municipal Judge Tanya Raun will administer the oath.

Noble, an Oklahoma State University professor, defeated Philip Pina in the April 2 election. Noble collected 962 votes, while Pina garnered 557. Pina was appointed to the City Council in April 2012 after councilor John Bartley was elected mayor.

Weaver, vice president of administration and finance at OSU, easily outdistanced Micah LeFebvre, 1,193 to 328. LeFebvre is employed at the university.

City councilors also will elect a vice mayor.

The City Council will discuss staffing of the air traffic control tower at the Stillwater Regional Airport and an associated budget amendment. The airport has $45,000 in its budget for professional services. Airport Authority trustees recommended adding $137,000 to that amount, making the new total $182,000.

The money will be used to pay the salaries of air traffic controllers. The Federal Aviation Administration cut funding for 149 air traffic control towers across the United States in response to the across-the-board budget cuts known as sequestration.

The cuts were scheduled to take affect in April and May. Friday, the FAA decided to delay the cuts until June 15.

City councilors also will receive a 2013-2014 budget update.
