City Council candidates discuss the issues at Chamber forum on Friday

STILLWATER, Okla. — Incumbent Cody Scott and his challengers for City Council seat 4, Miguel Najera and Jim Gardner, met Friday morning for their second forum in less than 24 hours.

Scott characterized his first term on the City Council as a long three years and a very unique experience.

He said the recession made budgeting twice as hard but he relied on input from the people he represents to make decisions.

Najera said he was inspired to run for public office by the example of Sen. David Myers who gave him a “forever family” as a teenager and taught him about making tough decisions.

He’s always wanted to go into politics, he said.

Gardner said he’s a relative newcomer to Stillwater but he wants to get involved and learn more about the city. He’s looking for a way to serve the community and he’ll find another way to do that even if he’s not elected, he said.

Audience questions focused on city finances, infrastructure and economic development.
