GOVERNMENT WATCH: Payne County Commission and Budget Board

STILLWATER, Okla. — Payne County commissioners on Monday heard from Rick Schneider, who asked if commissioners had plans in place for gravel for roads from 92nd Street to 104th Street and Brush Creek.

Commissioners unanimously approved purchase cards for rural fire departments to buy fuel at gas pumps. County Commissioner Chris Reding said the cards would be a time saver and increase accountability.

Commissioners conducted an annual jail inspection.

Commissioners unanimously approved a number of water line crossings for county roads from Select Energy, Brickman Fast Line and Calyx Energy.

Commissioners unanimously approved purchase orders to pay vendors $32,801 for general operations, $9,173 for the health department, $23,254 for the jail board, $292 for the sheriff service fees, $12,605 for county bridge improvements, $7,007 for revolving forfeiture, $96.89 for fair board cash and $295 for solid waste.

According to the expense report, the grand total approved was $149,863.

The Payne County Budget Board unanimously approved a part-time employee for County Commission Chris Reding. Reding said money to pay the extra office assistant is in his office’s budget.

County Treasurer Bonita Stadler led a discussion on how to invest approximately $59 million in county funds.

The county’s banking investment is earning a low interest rate which does not pay for bank fees, Stadler said. The county will lose from $650 to $700 a month if a solution is not found, she said.

The board approved raises for two workers in the county clerk’s office.
