STILLWATER, Okla. —
Phil Berkenbile has been in public education in some fashion since 1972.
On Tuesday, Noble County voters extended his stay.
Berkenbile defeated incumbent Tony Wisely by a wide margin to win a seat on the Morrison Board of Education.
“I am humbled by the support of the people,” said Berkenbile, who won 268 of the 306 votes cast to win seat 3. “I hope I can live up to their expectations.”
Berkenbile began his career in public education as an agricultural education teacher in Morrison Public Schools in 1972. He later served many years as the school system’s superintendent. He served for more than 20 years in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education before retiring as director Feb. 7.
