City of Stillwater receives grant money to promote recycling

STILLWATER, Okla. — The city of Stillwater recently received a $5,000 grant to promote and educate residents about its curbside recycling program.

Stillwater is one of 15 communities selected to receive the Curbside Value Partnership’s Connect Education Award Program grant, Stillwater Waste Management Manager Chris Knight said.

“We are honored to receive the grant. The money will help with promoting and educating the citizens of Stillwater on the new curbside recycling program,” Knight said.

The organization is impressed by Stillwater’s commitment and plans for recycling, CVP Executive Director Steve Thompson said.

“I look forward to working with them to increase recycling participation and tonnage in their program,” Thompson said.

The Stillwater Recycles: Curbside Single-Stream Program began rolling out its recycling carts earlier this summer. So far, more than 4,000 households have opted into the program.

The grant money will be used to provide more information about single-stream recycling to residents, Knight said.

All recyclable items go into one cart — unsorted — in single-stream recycling. The city accepts all paper products, cans and plastics in its curbside recycling program. It does not accept glass, he said.

Crews collect recyclables the same day as customers’ blue trash carts.

Customers who would like to sign up for the curbside recycling service can call 405-742-8269. Provide your name, service address, telephone number, email address and the size of the recycling cart you would like to have (35-, 64- or 96-gallon cart).
