Payne Co. moving ahead with road projects

STILLWATER, Okla. — Payne County is moving forward with two road resurfacing project. Commissioners awarded contracts at Monday’s special meeting for an asphalt overlays on County Club and McMurtry Roads.

Three companies submitted bids for the Country Club Road project.

The companies were:

• Quapaw Co., Stillwater, $77.25 per ton for Type A asphalt, $84.70 per ton for Type B asphalt.

•  Bailey’s Paving Co., Carner, $57.95 per ton for Type A asphalt, $62.95 per ton for Type B asphalt.

• Kern’s Construction, Inc., Stillwater, $56.39 per ton for Type A asphalt, $61.41 per ton for Type B asphalt.

The McMurtry Road bidders were:

• Quapaw Co., Stillwater, $85.50 per ton for Type B asphalt.

• Kern’s Construction, Inc., Stillwater, $64.38 per ton for Type B asphalt.

• Bailey’s Paving Co., Carney, $$63.95 per ton for Type B asphalt.

District 3 commissioner Jim Arthur said he wanted to select Bailey’s Paving Co., for both project.

The company wasn’t the lowest bid on the Country Club Road project, but was lowest on the McMurtry Road project. Arthur said it was the best option.

"I want to accept them as the lowest and best bid," Arthur said.

Commissioners voted 3-0 to award the contracts to Bailey’s Paving Co.
