Film festival brings international movies to Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Red Dirt International Film Festival is set for its inaugural kickoff Friday and Saturday.

The festival is the result of a successful funding campaign, which allowed organizers Damon Blalack and Marisa Ferrell to solicit submissions from several continents.

“We even have one from Antarctica,” Blalack said. “We were really unsure how many submissions we were going to get overall, especially since our submission window was so short. But, I never expected we would get one from every continent.”

Tickets are $5 online at reddirtfilmfestival.org or $6 at the door.

Day passes are available for $25 a day or $40 for an all-weekend pass. Discounts for members of the military, senior citizens and students apply.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. Friday in the Stillwater Community Center with “Dar He (The Lynching of Emmett Till).” Other venues taking part include the Stillwater Public Library, the Noble Research Center, Ibiza, Northern Oklahoma College’s Cowboy Mall and Stonewall Tavern.
