NEW: Stillwater police say man drowned in Lake McMurtry Friday

STILLWATER, Okla. — A man apparently drowned early Friday morning in Lake McMurtry, Stillwater police said.

Police and firefighters went to the boat dock on the lake’s east side at 2:43 a.m., police said in a statement issued this morning. Witnesses said a friend fell from the boat dock, went under water and never resurfaced, police said.

After about an hour of searching, Stillwater firefighters recovered the man’s body in 15 feet of water, police said.

The name of the drowning victim will not be released until police notify the person’s family, police said. His age has not been confirmed, but he may be in his 20s, police Chief Ryan McCaghren said.

The case is under investigation.
