STILLWATER, Okla. —
Payne County officials have created a new registry for storm shelters in the county.
This registry was created so emergency management personnel can check to make sure that no one is trapped when a tornado hits a particular area.
In the event of a tornado or fire, a map of the affected area will be overlaid with a map of the recorded storm shelters, and emergency management rescue personnel will go to each storm shelter to make sure residents are safe.
The information will be compiled by Payne County Emergency Management Director Jeff Kuhn. He said locating trapped residents in the event of an emergency is the only use for this registry and all information about the location will be kept confidential.
“We have kept the form very simple and easy to get to,” Kuhn said. “Just click on the Storm Shelter Registry box on the left side of the www.paynecounty.org website and answer some basic questions.”
