STILLWATER, Okla. —
The city of Stillwater has hired Sharla Lovern as transportation engineer. She will work on parking, signage and improvement of pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
Previously a research engineer with the biosystems and agricultural engineering department at Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service, Lovern helped develop the OSU Cow Creek stream restoration and streambank stabilization project. She also worked as the agricultural engineer for Oklahoma Natural Resources Conservation Service state office as the agricultural engineer, focusing on stream projects for government services.
“I am excited to help Stillwater further develop into a pedestrian and transportation friendly community, and be responsive to the citizens’ needs,” Lovern said.
Originally from Colorado, Lovern received her bachelor’s in environmental sciences and policy from Duke University, and her bachelor’s and master’s in biological systems engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She is a registered professional civil engineer.
Transportation Department Manager Jason Peek said, “Sharla will be a great asset to our team. She has a lot of experience and will benefit our department greatly.”
