Oklahoma State athlete pleads guilty to DUI, obstruction

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State football player Teddy Johnson, 21, pleaded guilty Monday to charges of drunk driving and obstructing an officer.

The fullback was given a one-year deferred sentence, a $650 fine and 40 hours of community service. He must also complete a drug evaluation.

According to an affidavit prepared by a state trooper, Johnson blew a blood alcohol content of .15 and .13 on April 24 after he was pulled over in a black truck near Perkins Road and Sixth Avenue in Stillwater shortly after 1 a.m.

In his affidavit, the trooper noted the car was rocking as he approached it and when he got to it he found a 16-year-old male in the driver's seat who smelled of alcohol. Three others were in the vehicle, including Johnson.

When the trooper attempted to contact the boy's father, the boy admitted Johnson had been driving and the two had switched when the vehicle stopped, the document shows.

Johnson initially denied driving, but then admitted the two had switched, the document shows.

The trooper's affidavit noted Johnson was unsteady on his feet, had red eyes and when submitted to field sobriety tests, showed he could not operate a vehicle.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
