Stillwater Board of Education OKs guaranteed max prices for elementary school construction

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Stillwater Board of Education unanimously approved guaranteed maximum prices of $36 million for the construction of two elementary schools Tuesday night.

The Board voted to accept Lambert Construction Company’s $18.4 million guaranteed maximum price for the construction of the Highland Park Elementary School and Lambert’s $17.3 million guaranteed maximum price for construction of Will Rogers Elementary School.

According to a report prepared by Assistant Superintendent Jim Ryan, the architect, construction manager and school staff identified $1.1 million in savings during the value engineering process of Highland Park. Another $355,000 in savings was identified in items that can be deferred to a later date. The guaranteed maximum price includes those savings.

The cost of road improvements to Drury Road and its intersection with State Highway 51, including improvements on the highway, are not included in the price.

Ryan anticipates requesting the Board approve bids for the road improvements at the December school board meeting and, early in 2013, an amendment to increase the guaranteed maximum price to cover the cost of the road improvements.

At Will Rogers, the architects, construction manager and school staff identified  $742,303 in savings. The guaranteed maximum price includes those savings.

According to Ryan’s report, the cost of the traffic signal work on Washington Street and the demolition of the existing school building are not included in the price. Ryan said he anticipates an amendment during the second quarter of 2013 to increase the price to cover the cost of those items.
