Stillwater Medical Center Authority Board to ask city to change trustee requirements

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Stillwater Medical Center Authority Board of Trustees voted Tuesday night to ask the City Council to revise requirements to become a trustee.

The change would create a non-voting position on the board open to any hospital employee.

Having hospital employees represented on the board has been a goal but the pool of candidates is limited to approximately 10 percent of all employees as many have contracts.

Trustees are not allowed to have a contract with the hospital to prevent a conflict of interest during votes. This prevents many doctors from being considered.

To eliminate this the board is proposing that the new trustee not have a vote. Six voting members would create the possibility of tie votes. The board also want the City Councile to create another trustee position to have seven votes.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jerry Moeller said the goal is to have the valuable input from hospital employees while continuing to prevent  conflicts of interest.
