Stillwater's Cristy Morrison honored as one of state's top women

One of '50 Making a Difference'

STILLWATER, Okla. —

A Stillwater woman has been named one of 50 Oklahoma women making a difference in the state.

Cristy Morrison, executive director of the Stillwater Convention and Visitors Bureau, was chosen as part of the elite group this year.

“Frankly, I was extremely honored that I had several people call and ask me to apply,” said Morrison. “That alone was really enough reward for me, so I was very shocked to learn that I was one of the 50 finalists.”

Morrison, an Oklahoma State University graduate, has thoughts on why she was nominated by her peers.

“I think a lot of it is just the longevity I’ve had in my current position,” said Morrison. “I’ve been in the (tourism) industry 15 years, which is a long time. I’ve really tried to help other communities to expand their tourism efforts. The more we do as individual communities, the more I think we can do as a state.”

Morrison and the other honorees will also be featured in a magazine.

Publisher and President of the Journal Record Mary Mélon says an event such as this is important to women, who are “woefully underrepresented pretty much across the gamut.”

“We’ve made a lot of great strides,” said Mélon. “I think shining the spotlight on women who are doing amazing things leading to organizations and communities is important to do as long as this underrepresentation exists.”
