VIDEO: Dog lovers help Humane Society of Stillwater raise money at Walk-n-Wag

STILLWATER, Okla. — Pet lovers turned out en masse for Saturday's Walk-n-Wag fundraiser for the Humane Society of Stillwater.

Gavin Powers were waiting in line to have a vet place an identity microchip into Lilo, a German shepherd/blue heeler mix. Powers got the two-month old puppy from a friend.

Beth Henderson of Atlanta, Ind., was in Stillwater helping her son pack as Oklahoma State University wrapped up its spring semester. "I had both my dogs here with me. It just worked out that we were here at the same time," she said.

Henderson said she and her two standard poodles were enjoying the fundraiser.

Walk-N-Wag enables the Humane Society of Stillwater to do its job. The organization partners with Stillwater's Animal Welfare division, Humane Society Director Jackie Ross-Guerrero said.

Animal Welfare can only keep a dog or cat for 10 days. If the pet isn't claimed, it is transferred to the Humane Society, which continues the adoption process. The Humane Society is a no-kill facility, she said.

"Without this event, we cannot rescue animals ...," Ross-Guerrero said.
