STILLWATER, Okla. —
Stillwater city councilors did away with the Westwood Neighborhood Area Parking District and the ordinance that established a parking permit system and fines for illegal parking at Monday’s special meeting.
Councilors unanimously approved the changes one week after Westwood neighborhood homeowners, tenants and landlords discussed their parking district likes and dislikes at a public hearing.
The parking district was created in August 2011. The ordinance establishing assessment fees, permits and illegal parking fines was approved on first reading at the Aug. 20 meeting. It was tabled at the Sept. 6 meeting and a public hearing scheduled.
One of the nation’s top parking consultants, Carl Walker, Inc., started collecting parking data in downtown Stillwater and neighborhoods surrounding Oklahoma State University this past week.
The $59,398 study is expected to be completed by the end of the year. City councilors have asked the company to provide possible parking solutions for Westwood before the study is completed.
