NEW: Firefighters battle massive fire, Glencoe being evacuated, report of firefighter being treated for heat exhaustion

Medical responders called in for firefighter apparently down with heat exhaustion

GLENCOE, Okla. — Firefighters faced with a massive fire north of Stillwater were battling heat as well as flames Saturday afternoon. An emergency medical response unit has been called in to tend to a firefighter who apparently was suffering from heat exhaustion,

Glencoe was being evacuated and the American Red Cross was set up to canteen responders.

Radio traffic indicated a call had come in from residents southwest of Glencoe whose house was surrounded by fire.

Heavy smoke was reported across roads.

The National Weather Service in Norman reported that storms developing along a front north of the Glencoe fire would "create erratic winds near the fire and lightning could cause more fires."

Firefighters were setting up between the fire and the town of Glencoe in an effort to stop the blaze before it reached the community.
