Yale mayor says representative will attend Monday's Payne County Development Authority meeting

YALE, Okla. — A Yale Economic Development Authority representative will attend Monday’s Payne County Economic Development Authority meeting to answer road-grant application questions, Yale mayor Terry Baker said Tuesday.

The city of Yale seeks an  $81,850 grant from the development authority to pave Prairie Lane, which leads to to a new development.

The authority looked at the application earlier this week, but delayed action because no one from Yale was present to comment or answer questions.

The Development Authority Board is comprised of Payne County’s commissioners — Gloria Hesser, James Arthur and Zach Cavett.

Hesser said earlier this week that she needed a Yale representative to answer questions about the grant application.

Yale City Manager Clara Welch said city offices were closed Monday for Columbus Day. Payne County officials hadn’t requested a representative to attend the meeting.

“We were not notified of the meeting,” Welch said.

Assistant District Attorney Lowell Barto advised the county development authority that the nonprofit Yale Community Group has sought builders to develop new houses, but the builders didn’t have to pave the street.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
