LANGSTON, Okla. —
The city of Langston is preparing for its Founders Day Celebration Oct. 18-20.
Langston town administrator Geisette Meade said the three-day event will celebrate the town’s origins.
“Langston started in 1890, but it wasn’t official until 1891 and it was pre-statehood,” she said.
She said the event will examine Langston’s history as well as provide old-fashioned games and children’s activities such as pony rides and petting zoos and other activities.
“It’s a big event,” Meade said. “It’s three days long and there will be guest speakers.”
Organizers are seeking event sponsors. There are varying sponsorship levels, including platinum, $2,500, gold, $1,500, silver, $750, and bronze, $500. Each level includes different benefits.
Another way to support the event is by purchasing advertisements in the souvenir booklet.
“We just want families in this community to bring stories and share their experiences and pictures,” she said.
For more information on sponsorships, call Redelia Grayson at 405-466-2271.
“What we’re hoping is to be able to educate everybody on the history of Langston ... and some of the things that happened throughout its 122 years and the direction it’s going,” Meade said.
