Family, friend, community remembers Stillwater Junior High School eighth-grader

STILLWATER, Okla. — Minister Charles Graham said a life is what happens to a person “in the dash,” that time between the date of birth and the date of death, and said the life compacted into Cade Poulos’ 13-year dash was full and loving.

Family, friends, classmates, school administrators, teachers and scores of people from the community mourned the death and celebrated the life of Poulos at a funeral service Tuesday at Life Church in Stillwater. LifeChurch officials said there were 845 people in attendance.

It was only six days ago that the 13-year-old eighth-grader at Stillwater Junior High died as a result of a single self-inflicted gunshot to the head in a school hallway 10 minutes before classes were set to begin.

On a crystal clear autumn day, Poulos was buried in a private ceremony in a family plot in Stillwater.

“His passing has shaken the family to a depth that only those who have lost a young child can imagine,” said Martin Reynolds, Cade’s uncle who served as the official spokesman for the family. “But this tragedy has also deepened the family’s love for one another and brought them even closer together.

“The family hopes Cade’s suicide sends a message that a child can be seen having a happy, normal life, while all the while, he is suffering in silence.”

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
