Storm causes power outage

• Another storm may be on its way tonight

While Stillwater may have missed the brunt of last night’s storm, another may be on its way tonight.

The thunderstorm that quickly rolled into town Tuesday evening brought high winds and left more than 2,000 homes without power for a few hours, according to Sherry Fletcher, city director of marketing and public relations.

The bulk of the outages were in the northeast corner of Stillwater, and most of it was restored by about 9:30 p.m., according to Fletcher. Crews fixed smaller outages throughout the night, finishing shortly after midnight.

Severe thunderstorms similar to last night’s are forecast to return to Payne county after 6 tonight, bringing golfball-sized hail and possible 70 mph winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy flooding is possible, according to the service.

Area towns reported little or no damage or power outages.
