STILLWATER, Okla. — Legends Weekend came to a close Sunday and event officials couldn’t have been happier with the results.

“We were absolutely amazed at the attendance all weekend long,” said Cristy Morrison, executive director of the Stillwater Convention and Visitors Bureau.

She said she noticed many wearing Oklahoma State University colors at the Stillwater Arts festival, which she said suggested those who attended university athletic events went to other events as well.

This has been the goal of Legends Weekend which combined various Stillwater events into one themed weekend so that attendees can go to several events rather than just one.

Visitors strolled along Main Street eyeing art from dozens of artists while listening to live music. Sports fans saw an Oklahoma State University football intrasquad scrimmage in which the Orange squad beat the White squad 17-7.

Resident Nettie Vick said she especially appreciated the many activities for the children, including a bouncy castle, face painting and basketball.

Morrison said she spoke with families visiting the city for junior day and they told her they were impressed with how viable the city’s downtown is.

“I love the fact that we had a lot of new people in town and that they had a lot of positive experiences,” Morrison said.
