STILLWATER, Okla. — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reopened Interstate 35 at State Highway 51. The highway closed from mile marker 174 south one mile due to a grass fire. The highway was closed an hour and 20 minutes, the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety said.
Firefighters from Stillwater, Guthrie, Mulhall and other area departments, hampered by 20-mph winds, battled the raging fire throughout the afternoon Thursday as the temperature climbed to 105 degrees.
The American Red Cross sent teams to provide snacks, water, sports drinks and cold towels to 100 firefighters in the Mulhall area and 50 fighting a fire near Crescent.
