Curbside recycling rolling out citywide

STILLWATER, Okla. — The yellow-lidded carts are coming!

The yellow-lidded carts are coming!

Stillwater’s waste management department starts rolling out yellow-lidded recycling carts Friday. The process will continue in Friday’s collection area until June 28.

It will take until late August to get recycling carts to all residents who requested them.

That number was 3,600 Monday, Waste Management Superintendent Chris Knight said, adding the city should eclipse its 4,000 goal in the next two or three weeks.

“Requests are still coming in,” Knight said, adding the city has expanded its curbside recycling boundaries to include residential customers who live outside the city limits.

Curbside recycling carts will be delivered on garbage collection day for residents. The city will start curbside recycling in neighborhoods the following collection day, Knight said. For example, Knight said, a resident who receives the recycling cart Friday will be able to place the filled recycling cart curbside on June 21.

Here is the rest of the rollout schedule:

• Thursday’s service area: July 11 through July 25.

• Monday’s service area: July 29 through Aug. 12.

• Tuesday’s service area: Aug. 13 through Aug. 27.

Stillwater will accept these items in its residential curbside recycling program.

• Plastics Nos. 1-7 and Styrofoam.

• Aluminum cans, foil and pans.

• Metal cans, containers.

• Paper products.

Curbside recycling does not accept glass, hazardous materials or plastic bags or wrap.

Waste management customers can still sign up for curbside recycling by calling 405-372-8269 or online at stillwater.org.

“I would like the numbers to keep growing,” Knight said. “We will keep working on that — educating and promoting. Hopefully, we can get more people on board.”
