STILLWATER, Okla. — The Missoula Children’s Theater will present “The Princess and the Pea” with shows at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stillwater Community Center.

Stillwater Community Center office aide Amber Baker said students from first grade through 12th grade auditioned for roles.

“Every year, it’s kind of a big deal,” she said. “A lot of the surrounding preschools, daycares and summer programs tend to come.”

The tour actors and directors Kayla White and Lauren Friday said it has been a fun collaboration between cast and crew.

“Things are going really well,” Friday said. “Everyone is amazing in this town. We just feel so welcomed. The kids are excited to be here and be a part of it.”

More than 100 youths auditioned. Approximately 58 are part of the show.

“I think we are more than ready,” Friday said.

“Everyone is super prepared. It’s always interesting when you give a script to a kid on Monday and ask them to have it memorized by Wednesday, but they always do.”

White said their No. 1 rule is to have fun. One child was overheard saying he didn’t know how he could have more fun.

“Communities love to see things like this,” Friday said. “There are a lot of kids who are really shy that come in the first week and are afraid to say anything in the audition.”

However, by the time they perform, they open up.

“I think it’s really changing kids’ lives and telling them they can do something like this in a week,” she said.
