STILLWATER, Okla. —
A section of East Ninth Avenue, between Main and Lewis streets is closed to replace a water valve, Water Utilities Director Anthony Daniel said.
Property owners lining the street were notified water service will be shut off 7 a.m. Sunday. Water should be turned back on within six hours.
The city has contracted with Orion Construction Services to replace 26 water valves and 33 fire hydrants throughout the city.
Project Manager Jamie Portell said the portion of the street was closed to do prep work for exposing the water valve. The construction crew is set to pour concrete Monday after replacing the valve, Portell said.
The street is scheduled to re-open Thursday, Portell said.
Daniel said the ongoing project to replace the hydrants and valves began in mid-September, and was originally scheduled to be completed in December.
Construction has been slowed because of cold temperatures, Daniel said. Ground temperatures must be 40 degrees or above to pour concrete.
