Pioneer Chorale will perform final vocal concert of year Monday

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Stillwater High School Pioneer Chorale will perform their final vocal concert of the year Monday.

“Love and Music: A Spring Concert” begins 7:30 p.m. at the Stillwater High School Performing Arts Center. Director Dana Ayers said the set list will include a tremendous variety.

“We run the gamut in this concert,” she said. “Everything from Randall Thompson’s ‘Alleluia’ ... and it’s very slow, but very, very dramatic and then we turn around and do something like ‘Amor de mi Alma,’ which everyone will know.”

Other pieces include a section of American spirituals and selections from the musical “Les Miserables.”

This year has been a successful one for the group which went to contest for comments only and received a great response, she said. Twenty-three students were taken to district contest; 21 of them received a superior rating allowing them to compete at the state level. At state contest, 20 of the 21 students made superior ratings and 25 first place medals were won. In addition, enrollment numbers are rising from the fall. Ayers said they have gone from 33 students to 50.

“Next fall, I anticipate my enrollment numbers are running 60,” Ayers said.

Ayers said she has been grateful for the support of principal Uwe Gordon, staff in the fine arts department, parents and students.

“I’m tremendously excited at what’s going to happen next year,” she said.
