Fugitive in Payne County sex-crimes case awaits extradition

STILLWATER, Okla. — A fugitive wanted for sex crimes connected to the case of former Oklahoma State basketball player Darrell Williams has been arrested in North Carolina and may be extradited to Payne County.

Yayi Janneh, 24, of Stillwater was arrested in Raleigh, N.C., Aug. 31 and is being held at Wake County Jail, Wake County officials said. Janneh is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24 for an extradition hearing, court records show.

According to Wake County Lt. B. McRay, Janneh is being held on a $250,000 bail for suspicion of being a fugitive from another state, criminal possession of a financial card forgery, financial card forgery, resisting arrest, giving fictitious information to an officer and exceeding a posted speed.

Janneh is accused in Payne County of sexually grabbing two women at the same house party that led Williams’ conviction on sex charges.

Williams is scheduled to return to court Friday to see if his attorneys’ motion for a new trial is granted. The retrial hearing has been postponed twice.

The house party took place Dec. 12 through Dec. 13 in Stillwater. Janneh was charged Feb. 7 with two counts of sexual battery. Special Judge Michael Stano issued a warrant for Janneh’s arrest the same day and issued a new one the day of his Raleigh arrest, requesting he be brought to Payne County Jail and be held without bail.
