STILLWATER, Okla. —
Police are investigating the seventh armed robbery this year and investigators believe the incidents are linked.
“It appears to be the same suspect in the string of numerous armed robberies,” said Police Capt. Randy Dickerson.
The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 9-inch, 160-pound black male. He often wears beanies, hoodies and female wigs during the robberies and uses a black semi-automatic handgun, police said.
The most recent armed robbery occurred Wednesday night in Perkins.
A man brandishing a black pistol robbed the Family Dollar Store in Perkins at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and fled the scene on foot.
Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst said police responded in less than a minute after the robbery occurred and searched the area around the store, which is located at 507 E. Hwy. 33 in Perkins, and took statements from people who were inside the building when the armed robbery occurred.
Ernst said the armed robber matched the description of a man connected with a string of six robberies in Stillwater since mid-January.
Ernst said the suspect was a black male dressed up like a female. The suspect was wearing a shoulder-length wig that appeared to be black or red, black heels, tan pants and a gray shirt. Ernst said the suspect, who was wearing sunglasses and a black headband, also had a thin mustache, although Ernst did not know if it was real or fake.
Ernst said the suspect entered the store and went directly to the cash register at the counter. After the armed robbery, the suspect fled eastbound on foot. Ernst said he did not know if a vehicle was involved.
No one was injured in Wednesday’s armed robbery but an undisclosed amount of money was taken.
On Tuesday night, Git-N-Gallup on Perkins Road and On Cue on North Washington Street were both robbed by a black male wearing a tight navy blue V-neck shirt, a black hooded sweatshirt, a women’s style wig of long curly brown hair, blue jeans rolled up to the calf and black slippers.
The suspect had a black semi-automatic handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash from each location.
The Git-N-Gallup was robbed by a similar suspect on Jan. 30. The suspect wore a black shirt and had a bandaid on his nose. He fled on foot.
Approved Cash has also been robbed twice, first on Jan. 17 and again on Feb. 1. During the first robbery the suspect also took the clerk’s silver car and cell phone. The car was later recovered. Police have released the best photos they have of the suspect from the recent robberies in hopes it will encourage those with information to come forward.
A robbery also occurred at Cowboy Corner on Duck Street Jan. 25. During this robbery the suspect was described as wearing a tight-fitting beanie hat and had long, straight hair with curly tips. The front of his hair was black with streaks of red.
During many of the robberies, customers were in the store, police said.
